He doesn't turn his head to look back at her, letting her nudge him forward, boots clinking against the metal floor softly. She has every right to be afraid of how he might react if he knew what had transpired between her and A2...but now that he's been living with the other android and built up a kinship of sorts with her, he'd be more willing to seek out the entire story than just react violently. There has to be a reason for everything, after all. If there's no rhyme or reason for something, that's what disturbs him truly, at his core.]
I am safe, 2B. Even A2 makes sure of that.
[Up his hands rise, fingertips touching hers that rest against his shoulders.]
The more you push me away the more it hurts.
[A lot.]
Nothing is going to happen to me. I know a lot more than you probably ever wanted me to know and I'm still me.
no subject
She so rarely gets to touch him without hurting him that moments like this are something she does with care, gentle and yet still somehow possessing, as though she wants to pull him in and not let him go.
But of course she doesn't. She just squeezes his hands, his shoulders, and decides that that was enough honesty for now.]
If you want to know certain things about my time here, I'll tell you. It would be easiest if you asked me directly what you want to know so I don't say anything you don't want to hear.
no subject
...I want to know about all the things you discover here that are new and exciting to you, 2B. I want to be able to share in that excitement.
[It's a very Scanner-eque approach to the world and he knows she doesn't function or process things the same way he does...but even so he can't help what he wants.]
Like, if you see something in a shop that you find pretty or if you learn something new that blows your mind - I want to know about it! I want to know all about you, 2B...we finally have a chance where we can be ourselves here. I don't want to let it go to waste.
no subject
[It's so familiar, that affirmation of her acceptance of something, but it's different this time. There's real affection in her tone, and just for a second she leans her forehead down, resting just at the base of his neck.
But it's just a flash of intense intimacy and then it's gone, but she at least keeps her hands on his shoulders, keeps their fingers linked.]
Let me see... I learned that dancing is a way for humans to express themselves. They can use certain movements to express joy or love or even sadness.
no subject
[He'd danced with Lady Five, after all, but he'd been far too enamored by the way she looked at him and whispered sweet words of adoration his way. It was what had come out of her mouth that he'd focused on, rather than the movements he'd found himself trying to imitate.]
It makes sense though. [A beat, his tone lighter.] Want to practice with me sometime? Not many people wanted me as a dancing partner on the ship.
[Which was only half his fault.]
no subject
[She's pleased with her choice now, hearing the excitement starting to color his voice. This is much better, and when the elevator dings and the doors slide open she doesn't move right away.]
I suppose we don't have to go in after all...
[They kind of worked everything out already.
Right?
Right?]
no subject
[It's fine.
Or well it was fine. His head snaps up at that and he's turning to face her now, making sure to snatch up her hands before she has a chance to tug them away.]
Oh no you don't. You're not getting rid of me that easily.
[It's his turn to lead her now, giving her a tug to coax her out of the elevator and down the hall toward her room.]
Am I really that terrible to spend time with? Yeesh.
[He's joking though and it's obvious in his voice.]
Besides, I didn't get to give you what I made you.
no subject
How do you know I wasn't going to suggest we take a walk together?
[Two can play this joking teasing game.]
no subject
[Dammit. Don't play with his heart like this 2B!]
Well...did you want to go on a walk?
no subject
She still lives alone, no assigned roommate, and she's made no attempts to personalize what would be the shared living space or her own room. She's an android, after all, and any human she might spend time with would never be asked to go out of their way to come to her.
The Down apartments are not pleasant places, but she doesn't seem to notice.]
no subject
I guess that's a no to the walk?
no subject
[But she knows that she needs to do a little more than that, go a little farther with it. She needs to do better to keep them both from suffering.]
In public, it's frowned upon for two Submissives to appear to be too friendly with each other. We can be ourselves here, but if you asked me to go for a walk with you I wouldn't say no.
no subject
[Ahhh...it's so hard. Life is so hard sometimes.]
Well, I want for us to be ourselves. We never get the chance to.
no subject
[Which they should be anyway, she doesn't add out loud. He's probably aware that's what she's thinking.]
You should decide. Do we stay in, or do we go out?
no subject
[There's a decisive step toward her as he takes a moment to glance toward the shut door.]
I'm tired of having to be mindful.
no subject
You'd have to start being mindful first.
[She's even smiling a little while she teases him, gross.]
no subject
[But he doesn't seem hurt by it, not when he catches the smile that plays on her lips. Lacing their fingers together once more he reaches out with his other hand to place it on her waist, arranging her into the starting position for a little dance of sorts. It's crude and simple, but the intention is what matters.]
I'm always mindful, 2B.
no subject
Literally, so to speak.
She puts her hand on his shoulder without prompting and then nods for him to go ahead.]
Ordinarily the male partner would lead.
no subject
[And he makes it known as he takes a step forward, leaning into her as he begins to lead her in following a simple box step. Each movement is aptly timed and easy to match by someone like her. It's not as if there's much space to really waltz around the place, and the lack of music does somewhat dampen the experience, but he fills the void with a light, pleasant hum of a simple melody. It's better than nothing.
It's after a few moments of this that he decides to be daring and take a risk, pulling back only to guide her into a twirl.]
I'm no human dancer [He's always falling short in comparison in general, isn't he?] but I doubt I'm the worst either.
no subject
If she had pushed him away one more time she would have lost this chance, maybe for good with so many humans here to keep his interest. He seems to be less interested in them than she is, but she knows their programming as well as he does. There will always be a siren call to them, always a desire to see them smile.
But 9S isn't like her, and losing sight of that has almost cost her more than once. When he spins her out he surprises her, this new boldness something she isn't accustomed to with him, but even that is something she finds favorable.]
You do this better than the humans.
[Which might be shocking to hear from her, but it's a rare bit of open truth for him.]
They stumble a lot because they can't program the steps in like we do.
no subject
That said, he'll take the compliment.]
Thanks 2B.
[His cheeks are warm and pink from that alone, as he twirls her back his way and pulls her flush against him. It makes it a little awkward for him to lead, what with their height difference not exactly working in his favour, but clearly he must be doing something right.]
Even if some of them stumble, there are many who dance beautifully too.
no subject
She didn't really think 9S could be this bold, if she's honest with herself.]
I can't deny that.
[He's right, after all. The humans are beautiful even with their flaws, maybe even because of them. Not tarnished or lesser, but real instead of the synthetic perfection of herself and her partner.
Pulled in close again, she forgoes putting her hand on 9S' shoulder and puts her arm around him instead, dancing close in the way she learned from one of her human partners.]
Their ability to improvise is admirable too.
no subject
[Sure, 9S was clever and he could think outside the box more than most of his brethren, but that spark of creativity he had still paled in comparison to a human's innate ability to create and imagine.
They're close, bodies pressed together. He likes it. This is how it should be. Just the two of them like this. Suddenly, he decides to dip her, hand at the small of her back as he does so, face hovering close to her's. She's...a bit lighter than she used to be, which in some ways makes it easier to pull off such a move. He's still not sure how to feel about that.]
All I can manage is the illusion of improvisation.
no subject
This isn't a fight and 9S isn't her enemy. He's more than she can put into words and as she feels herself hanging in his arms she can't help the slight smile that curls her lips upwards. Her hand has shifted up to hold the side of his neck for her own attempt to keep upright, but even then she doesn't need to. He's strong enough to hold her, strong enough to do so many things.
She still worries, of course, and her thumb rubs a careful little circle against the soft skin of his neck.]
You don't fake anything you do, 9S. You're more authentic than most YoRHa units.
no subject
You sure you don't mean emotional?
[He's not sure if that's a good thing. It never really was, back under YoRHa's command. Flaunting his personality and all of its 'flaws' never sat well with the higher ups, his Operator, or even 2B sometimes it felt like. Unable to help himself he leans closer, until their foreheads are touching. Her smile is infectious and he finds his own lips tugging upward at their corners.]
All I know is that there's no reason to keep secrets from each other here. There shouldn't be anything 'classified' between us, don't you think?
[Of course he's a hypocrite while saying this. After all, he knows the fate of humanity...he just can't bear to tell her, not when their creators are running around amongst them.]
